Carpet Cleaning Tips

“Spot cleaning a carpet is good. It keeps the carpet looking good until you have time to call a professional to do the job. Remember, carpet manufactures recommend having your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year. Twice if you soil them frequently. Cleaning your carpet too often can hurt your carpet and shorten it’s life-span. One of the problems that we come across is when homeowners clean their carpet themselves and leave behind a terrible residue in the carpet. This is especially true when using certain name brand carpet spot removers.

These products leave a residue that temporarily leaves the spot looking good and giving you a false sense of satisfaction for a job well done. However, within a few weeks or even days, the spot is replaced with a grayish-blackish spot the continues to collect more dirt as the spot has traffic over it. When these spots are rinsed out, it leaves a residue that is worse than the original spot. One other item to note, keep in mind before you start spilling things on that stain – you may do more damage and end up costing yourself more money than if you just simply called a professional.

Area Rugs in your home

Everybody has a weakness, mine is a long term commitment area rugs and endless cleaning routines to keep them fresh and pretty.

I simply can’t walk past a carpet shop without peeking in and dreaming how each would look in every room of my home. Some women have a shoe thing, my thing is carpets.

Because of my affinity for area rugs, I’ve built up a rather wonderful knowledge base on how to keep them spotless. Of course, keeping your woolen or synthetic rugs clean depends largely on what type of rugs you have at home.

Here’s an important cleaning tip – all rugs are not made equal. Certain area rugs require specialist treatment like Persian, Kelim, or Oriental.

If your home’s anything like mine – Sand, dirt and bits of the great outdoors make their way inside on the shoes of my friends and family members an onto my rugs.

When accidents happen as they do, the best course of action is to clean your rug immediately, using the right agents to make sure color-fastness isn’t compromised. Most manufacturers have made their rugs stain-resistant, which gives you a head start.

Always do a thorough vacuum first before you attempt the washing routine and make sure all other areas of your home are clean too!
