The 3 Second Rule in Roseville

The There Second Rule goes something like this: if you retrieve food dropped on the floor within three or five seconds, it won’t yet be contaminated.

Wishful thinking. Or an excuse not to throw otherwise good food away.

Let’s look at the facts. Disease-causing bacteria (known as pathogenic bacteria) and other microorganisms (such as viruses) are potentially everywhere and can be remarkably virulent. So logically, it would be an easy task for a microorganism to attach itself to a surface, especially to a moist piece of food.

A 2007 study from a team at Clemson University, tested the five-second rule on tile, wood and carpet. They contaminated the three surfaces with a high level of Salmonella Typhimurium and looked at the rate in which the bacteria transferred to bread and sausages, over a period of 24 hours.

Only to find, the amount of time food spends on the floor makes little difference to the transfer of bacteria.

They found the most significant variable in the transfer rates from all three surfaces was not the length of time it had contact with the food. The three testing times (five, 30 or 60 seconds) made little difference in the rate of bacterial transfer.

The length of time the bacteria had been on the surface prior to contact with the food mattered more. Four hours after contamination, the same amount of bacteria remained on the carpet, while rates of bacteria on the tile and wood were slightly lower.

But another study, on bacteria in the manufacturing environment, found that the longer the food was exposed to a contaminated surface, the more bacteria it accumulated. As did an investigation on transfer between meat surfaces.

Overall, a comprehensive review on bacterial attachment to surfaces concluded that moisture, pressure and contact time increased the likelihood of bacterial transfer.

Next time you drop something on your carpets here in Roseville and contemplating the Three Second Rule, think about the findings of Microbiologist Kris Griffon.

Caring for your Area Rug in Lincoln

Regular vacuuming: The most important thing to look after your rug is to vacuum regularly, it helps to remove dirt, grit & grime that can wear out your rug prematurely.

Note: Please DO NOT vacuum the fringe of your rug, use a small hand vacuum to do this if necessary.

Brush out pet fur: Vacuuming may sometimes leave few pet fur and dander behind, we recommend using  a semi-stiff brush to remove the fur, while brushing in the direction of the nap of the rug.

Rotate your rug: It’s always a good idea to rotate your rug two or three times a year for even wear, as foot traffic and sun can put stress on area rugs.

Shake your rug: If the rug is small enough, you can take it outside and give it a nice shake to remove dirt and small particles that may be embedded in your rug.

Cold and Flu Prevention for the Workplace in Granite Bay

Colds and flu can be passed  easily from person to person in the absence of preventative measures. The cold and flu season tends to run from October to April in Granite Bay. When it arrives, workplaces can play host to the transmission of colds and flu between the staff. Easy preventative measures can be taken to reduce the chance of colds spreading.

Here is a simple practical way to prevent the spread of viruses in your workplace.

Keeping the Workplace Clean

People with colds are the most contagious during the first two to three days of contracting the cold. Those with the flu are immediately contagious for five days after being infected. Ensuring that the workplace is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected is a sound basis for building your strategy for prevention. Your Professional Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner can assist with regular and professional upholstery cleaning. This is where bacteria from colds lye dormant, just waiting to be picked up.

Cleaner Workstations

Workstations should be wiped down clean and disinfected.

  • Computers, mice, and phones. Computer keyboards, mice, and telephones are some of the most germ-prone areas in the entire office, outranking toilets for bacteria levels.
  • Desks. De-clutter desk areas, ensuring that desktops are free of old files, memos, or other rarely used objects. Tidy away pens and stationery by using appropriate containers. Use filing cabinets and IN/OUT trays to organize paperwork.
  • Floors. If you’ve been using your floors as a storage space, now is a good time for a thorough cleaning. Use filing cabinets for storage files and stow other items in appropriate containers, shelves, and drawers.

Along with these  solutions, carpets should be kept well vacuumed, ideally by professional cleanings, to reduce dust mites and other contaminates. When it comes to professional carpet and upholstery cleaning services, we are committed to green policies. These policies may include using only natural cleaning products, and reducing general waste during the cleaning process in Granite Bay.

You would want to be certain that everything in your house is all spic and span, and this would include your priced area rug. First, make use of natural products and solutions to clean this type of rug is recommended when getting rid of any unwanted grime and debris. It is even possible not to use any liquid solution by simply shaking off the rug and whipping it right outside your deck.

Also, it is wise to leave the rug hanging or suspended over the side railing of your house for some time to allow the unwanted particles to naturally fall off rather than bringing them immediately inside the house.

You can also clean your rug with water (do not over saturate) and, letting it dry under the sun. This is quite effective in loosening dusts and other minute debris that lay within it.

On extreme cases, where the above hints don’t seem to satisfy you, you can always seek a Rug Cleaning Professional to take care of your area rug cleaning in Granite Bay.

Deep cleaning vacuums

Deep cleaning vacuums in Roseville.  The typical features with these types of vacuums  include rotating brushes that agitate the carpet  pile and loosen the dirt for better clean.  There are some models that offer a handy automatic tool conversion button or switch that you can push or  flip as you move from carpet to hardwood floor.

Hand held vacuums Hand held vacuums are light weight, can be corded or cordless, and you can even mount most of them on the wall if you prefer.  The performance of the cordless models will depend on the charge of the battery, as the battery power drops, so will the suction power.

The two types of hand held vacuums include straight suction and suction with a power brush.  If you are considering a hand held vacuum cleaner, you should consider its primary purpose, if you plan to use it on a regular basis or occasionally on smaller jobs.
