The Heat is ON!

Yes, the Summer Blazing Heat is upon us! Great for tanning, not so great for your upholstery.

Here are simple solutions to combat Blazing Heat on your upholstery: Simply close the drapes when the sunshine is blazing through the hottest part of the day. Another solution may be to rearrange your furniture where your upholstered furniture is away from direct sunlight. Another solution is to call a professional window tinter and tint the windows. The best solution we found is to have your upholstered furniture cleaned annually and have your Hometown Professional Carpet and Upholstery Care Specialist apply Carpet Shield, Carpet and Fabric Protector to protect your upholstered furniture from those harmful rays of the sun therefore slowing down the fading process when “The Heat is ON!”

Barbecue & Carpets Don’t Mix

Barbecue sauce has hit your carpeting, now what do you do to get rid of it?

With the summer months here more and more people will be grilling out. With the fun of summer comes the destruction of stain, though! There will be parties, fun times, and lots of wonderful foods. But, what should you do when you find that the foods you love are causing stains? There are more than a few accidents that are likely to happen. The good news is that you can easily find the solution for your needs here.

Speed Is Key!

As with most other types of stains, being quick to clean them up is the best thing for the stain. That does not mean it can not come off otherwise, but your chances of full stain removal are better when you work on the stain quickly.

What About My Carpet?

What should you do if your carpet ends up with a barbecue stain? This can be quite troublesome as it is very difficult to clean stains effectively on carpeting without immediate attention. The good news is that you can usually get the barbecue out without to much work if you work fast.

Steps To Take

You need to move quickly to tackle the stain effectively. Remove as much as possible with a spoon. Use a clean, dry terry cloth to blot the stain to remove as much as possible. Do not rub it. Blot on baking soda and water to the area. Follow this with a clean, dry terry cloth blotted to remove more of the stain. Repeat as necessary.

Because barbecue sauce can also be oily, you want to consider placing baking soda on the stain once it is fully removed This will absorb the oils that may still be in the carpet. Allow to sit for a while. Then, vacuum it up.

Fading Upholstery?

Several steps which a homeowner can take to insure that  ultraviolet light damage or fading is minimized this summer.

Keep your upholstery out of direct sunlight – arrange your rooms to minimize direct sunlight exposure to your upholstery.

Close drapes and blinds – during the brightest part of the day, this will help protect your upholstery.

Protective window treatments – ultraviolet blocking window coatings are now widely available. They can be applied at the factory on new windows or on the panes of your existing windows.

Apply fabric protectors – by having fabric protectors applied to your upholstery, you can reduce the amount of sun fade damage. Fabric protector will need to be reapplied after cleaning in Roseville, Ca.

Oily spots

Oily spots from grease, tar,  baby oil, suntan oil,  etc are usually quite stable, so they’re not especially urgent to deal with – apart from visual annoyance.

As long as you call your Local Hometown Professional Carpet Cleaner. within a few days, oil can usually be removed with success.

Scrape up the excess, remove as much of the oil as possible without spreading it.

Do not apply water or any other liquid as oil repels water and it will probably just spread the oil out over a larger area.

We wouldn’t recommend using any of the available stain removers you see advertised or at your local market, as these may make it worse.

These simple tips will minimize any damage or discoloration to your carpets and rugs.
